I'm Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing is a traditional Spiritual that’s long been in my mind and soul. I saw that it was coming up as an appropriate selection to complement a set of Lectionary readings, and I got to work. This is the result.
I originally arranged Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing for four-octave handbells back in the ’80s. I still have the dot-matrix printout on tractor-fed paper to prove it! I repurposed this for piano. Delightful, rhythmic energy.
Why should organists have all the fun? An arrangement of Psalm 19 for organ was one of the first things I learned as an organ student back in high school. I'm happy to have arranged this for piano solo.
While I was working on the arrangement of the original Psalm 19, I realized an ornamented, "fancy" version might have a place in the repertoire, so I arranged this. Great for church services, weddings and concerts.
Some of my best work (at least, I think so!) has been for specific uses. I needed an arrangement of Now the Green Blade Riseth during Eastertide, and this mysterious arrangement came to mind.
A big highlight in my career was my work with 3rd Ave. Arts in Durango, Colorado. As part of 3rd Ave. Arts, we started a multi-faceted Sacred Arts Festival. One of the aspects was a concert entitled “Music for Sacred Spaces.” I wrote this for the concert on the 2013 festival.
